Bowman will work directly with State Representative Daniel Pae. This is an amazing opportunity for Bowman, who will be on the ground floor of the state legislative process. Bowman said he first learned about the opportunity from his teacher Dr. Terrance “Doc” Freeman and that he is excited to learn more about the political process.

“I hope to see how our political system works from the inside. We hear about it on the news, we read about it in books, hear it on the radio… but at the Page program, I will be able to see what goes on with my very own eyes,” Bowman said. “I hope to gain a better understanding and appreciation for how our current system of government works.”

Bowman’s page assignment will take place March 28 to April 1 where he will work in the House chamber during daily sessions, run errands and take part in the House Page Mock Legislature.

Heading into his senior year, Bowman set a goal of gaining as much real-world experience and knowledge before heading off to college.  He has earned recognition as an accomplished writer with title earnings in several state and national essay and oratorical contests. He is thankful for Dr. Freeman and shares how his mentorship helped him grow as a writer.

“I’m more of a math and science guy. I like to create things… predict the fall of a falling object,” Bowman said. “But with thoughts, [Doc] helps me recognize the beauty and flow of the English language and how we can connect between the physical world and emotional world.”

After graduation, Bowman will attend MidAmerica Nazarene University for general studies before finishing up his degree in Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
